What is the pilates reformer?

The Pilates Reformer is a spring-loaded 6' + long piece of equipment designed for all individuals to exercise with support. It contains a pulley system that allows clients to place their legs or hands in straps that are used to assist the exercise or provide resistance. The Pilates exercise and reformer were invented by Joseph H. Pilates. He developed the program in the 1920's while working as a nurse in a prison camp.

What are the benifits of Reformer Pilates?

The benefits of both Mat Pilates and Reformer are:
Increases muscle strength
Greatly improves flexibility
Creates proper posture and lean, strong abdominal muscles
Strengthens lower back
Pilates is used by individuals who wish to lose weight and/or inches, increase flexibility, and improve posture. It is for those in their teens through to adults in their 70s. Athletes use it for developing core strength and dancers use it for flexibility! Physical therapist use it for clients needing rehabilitation. It is for all shapes and sizes!

How are Reformer Pilates classes run?

During the 30 or 60-minute workout a Certified Pilates Reformer Instructor takes a maximum of 5 clients through a series of exercises that work the lower body, upper body and the core muscle groups. Variations of each exercise are given as options to enable beginners, intermediate, as well as advanced clients to benefit from his/her own optimal workout. Classes can also be conducted on a 1 on 1 basis.

How do I join classes?

The Reformer Pilates Classes are by appointment only. Due to the popularity of the studio, it is essential that all clients make appointments at least 24 hours in advance. For the most advantageous results, three times per week is highly recommended. However, if the Pilates Reformer is in addition to other exercise regiments, then once or twice per week is acceptable. New Image also offers specialty classes for dancers, golfers and tennis players.
